Shiawassee County Home Help: Get Paid to Care for Family in Owosso, Durand and Beyond

In small towns like Owosso, Corunna, Durand, Perry, Laingsburg and Byron, family usually is the care plan. When a parent or grandparent needs help at home, it's often a son, daughter or grandchild who steps in. Michigan's Home Help program can pay you for that care, and Genesis Care Network makes signing up simple.

Do You Qualify?

You may qualify if you can say yes to these:

  • My loved one has full Michigan Medicaid (or I'd like help understanding how to apply)

  • They need hands-on help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, meals or medications

  • They live in Michigan, in their own home or a family home (not a nursing home)

  • I'm 18 or older and can pass a background check

  • I'm not their spouse, and they're not my child under 18

Not sure about one? Apply anyway. We'll help you figure it out.

No Agency Down the Road? You Don't Need One.

Genesis has one office, in Okemos (about 30 miles away), and serves families across Michigan from there. You don't have to drive there to get started. Sign up the way that works for you:

  1. Online: fill out our caregiver application from your phone or computer.

  2. By mail: call us and we'll mail you a paper application.

  3. In person: once your screening is complete, a Genesis team member will visit you.

Most caregivers are approved and working within 2 to 4 weeks.

What You'll Earn

  • $17.33 an hour, plus a $300 sign-on bonus

  • Paid every two weeks by direct deposit or debit card (your first check arrives about a month after you start)

  • Paid CNA training if your loved one has complex medical needs

  • No cost to you or your loved one. Home Help is paid for by Michigan Medicaid.

Who Can Be Paid?

You must be 18 or older and pass a background check. Adult children, grandchildren, siblings, other relatives, friends and neighbors can all be paid caregivers. A spouse can't be paid to care for a spouse, and a parent can't be paid to care for a minor child.

Your loved one needs full Michigan Medicaid and help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, meals, medications or housework. A caseworker from the MDHHS Shiawassee County office assesses their needs and approves their care hours.
